Jessie Fuentes

A queer latina grassroots organizer, educator, and public policy advocate with over a decade of experience working in education, criminal justice reform, affordable housing, community development and sustainability.

MEET JESSIE:

A child of Humboldt Park and a seasoned organizer, Jessie’s lived experience overcoming poverty, violence and generational trauma, coupled with her professional accomplishments, have prepared her to serve the residents of the 26th Ward.

Through personal resilience, community support, and restorative justice she was able to turn her most challenging life experiences into tools to uplift others facing similar life circumstances.

Jessie’s candidacy is a message to young people that transformation and change are possible. Her run for City Council is proof that one’s life circumstances do not have to dictate their destiny — this is how we advance safe communities.

Jessie, a Director of Policy and Youth Advocacy, created a $4 Million violence prevention program that now serves the Humboldt Park and Hermosa communities and has led efforts to preserve the culture and economic vibrancy of our neighborhood by making Humboldt Park a Cultural District.

As Alderperson of the 26th Ward, Jessie will fight to:

  • Invest in public safety strategies that keep our communities safe

  • Expand affordable housing and stop the displacement of long-term residents

  • Support our small businesses and advocate for responsible economic development

“I don’t want to govern on behalf of people, I want to govern with people.”
